  • Russian Figure Skater Evgeni Plushenko Withdraws From Sochi Winter Olympics Because Of Back Pain

    In an unexpected turn of events, Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko withdrew from the competition just moments before he was to perform. Earlier in a warm-up, he performed a triple axle jump and seemed to be in pain as he landed. In mid-2013, he underwent surgery to replace a disc in his back. The prolific skater has had 12 surgeries in all. He decided against risking further injury and bowed out of the Sochi Olympics. Earlier in the 2014 games, he brought home Russia’s first gold medal of the Olympic season.

  • The Need For Physical Therapy In a Femur Fracture

    Last week, during a training run, Olympic hopeful Heidi Kloser fractured her femur and tore ligaments in her knee. Although she’s out for the Sochi Games, she was with her team during opening ceremonies. In true Olympian style, she joined her team using a wheelchair, and later, crutches. She is expected to have surgery within the next few weeks and already has her sights set on the 2018 Olympics in South Korea.

  • Healing Richard Sherman's Ankle Injury

    In the last quarter of Superbowl XLVIII, Richard Sherman suffered a high ankle injury and left the game. He sustained an injury to the same ankle earlier in the game. Although Sherman didn’t return to the game, the Seahawks took the Superbowl in 43-8 win. After the game, Sherman was on crutches and wearing a boot. Unless medical intervention is necessary, recovery and physical therapy will take between 6 and 12 weeks.

  • Superbowl XLVIII Dreams Crushed By Nightmare Knee Injury

    The San Francisco 49ers’ NaVarro Bowman recently suffered a knee injury that may have cost his team an opportunity to play in the Superbowl XLVIII. Shortly after completing a red zone catch, Bowman’s teammate hit Seahawks’ receiver Jermaine Kearse knocking Kearse into Bowman. Bowman’s knee bent inward and he fell to the ground. Preliminary reports say that Bowman tore his left anterior collateral ligament (ACL) and left medial collateral ligaments (MCL).
