Doctor of Physical Therapy Jeff Sadaya and the team at Cross Bay Physical Therapy are excited to have the opportunity to educate our local senior community. The ability to stand and walk upright on two legs requires a great amount of balance. Older people typically experience loss of balance and are at a greater risk for falling. This is due to changes in muscular strength, loss of flexibility, and decreased reaction time that may occur with aging. Fortunately for seniors, there are many ways to increase balance and prevent falling. DPT Jeff Sadaya began his professional career as a student at Cross Bay Physical Therapy and has continued on becoming the head physical therapist on staff, serving the Howard Beach community at since 2006. His treatment approach is based on the principles of hands-on manual physical therapy; a method of recognizing and correcting movement dysfunction with each patient. “It is vital that we prevent falls in our seniors, as they are the leading cause of fatal as well as non-fatal injuries. Seniors who have fallen in the past are at a greater risk for falling in the future.” said, Dr. Sadaya. On Tuesday, 11/25/13 from 10:30am-11:30am at the Ozone Park Senior Center, and Tuesday 12/3/13 at the Howard Beach Senior Center, Jeff will be presenting information on proper balance techniques. This educational event will cover the most basic balance exercises, proper use of canes and assistive devices, followed by Q & A. There will be samples and prizes to win! The goal of this event is to educate our community on how to avoid serious pain and suffering from a lack of balance. This free event will be taking place at the Catholic Charities Neighborhood Services Ozone Park Senior Center located at 103-02 101st Ave, Ozone Park, NY 11416 this Tuesday 11/25 from 10:30am -11:30am, and the following Tuesday 12/3 at the Catholic Charities Neighborhood Services Howard Beach Senior Center from 10:30am -11:30am.
